China is a relatively rare entity—a long-coated English Mastiff, sometimes known as a “fluffy”. They come in all the mastiff colors and the coat is exceptionally soft and silky, variable in density. It’s a coat you want to bury your hands and face in. We’ve only seen a small sample in rescue but they seem to be exceptionally calm and sweet in character and those who have had one always seem to be looking for another.
China came into rescue from a shelter in Pittsboro, NC, owner surrendered by a family who got her for their daughter who lost interest pretty quickly and she ended out on a chain in the yard, petted and played with from time to time, but pretty much ignored. The neglect didn’t affect her lovely attitude at all and at the shelter she was everyone’s pet, including the Animal Control officer who took her out daily and played with her until one of our volunteers heard about her.
Needless to say, she has had no training at all but her natural amiability makes her an easy-going pleasure in all regards. She is open, affectionate and trusting with everyone. She interacts with other dogs effortlessly immediately, relaxed and quietly friendly, but not at all intrusive. She’s the perfect dog for the person who wants a sweet mastiff, always a lady, never in trouble, always delighted to be with her person, doing whatever that person likes to do.
She is now in foster in South Carolina and we will have more information soon!
