Duke urgently needs a foster!
Duke is a young sweet, reasonably well-mannered male Mastiff who is being placed into rescue due to a change in his family’s situation. Duke is eager to please. He knows basic commands (sit, stay, down, heel) but as with most Mastiffs he sometimes has selective hearing.
Duke is good with children and is generally a happy greater once visitors enter the home, though he will bark at the door when he hears them knock.
He seems to be calm around small animals, ignoring the one cat he met, and living peacefully with a pet rabbit (always separated by a mesh fence). He enjoys the dog park and has been a good playmate there. Duke enjoys a few laps around they yard or a nice walk and then power naps for most of the day.
Duke is a young dog with no health issues whatsoever. He did experience a mild seizure after being given his first dose of Nexgard. (Seizure activity can be a side effect of oral flea and tick medications.) Duke is currently on a low dose of phenobarbital and has had no further seizures. He will need to stay on this medication until the vet can confirm that it was an isolated incident.
Duke has been well raised and loved in his original home. He was surrounded to rescue due to the arrival of a new baby in his home. Since he is a typically goofy clueless adolescent Mastiff, his family is concerned that he may inadvertently knock the baby over as she is learning to crawl and walk.
