Everyone who has met Frank agrees that he’s a lover, not contender. Frank is one of the most cheerful, amiable, adaptable Mastiffs ever to come to SSMR. He’s very serious in pictures, we know not why….
He came to a SC shelter as a stray, seriously emaciated from life on the mean streets perhaps, for which his sweet temperament was ill-prepared. He was, fortunately, healthy and good groceries have solved that all too common problem.
He is immediately fine with all dogs, large and small. We don’t know about cats since he hasn’t met any, but he seems to have no prey drive whatsoever and is so committed to people pleasing that a careful cat introduction with a knowledgeable cat should be fine, a simple training issue. He hasn’t met any children since coming into rescue either but we would have the same optimism about his attitude toward children.
He likes to play and will offer play bows to dogs and people. He has a lot of enthusiasm but not a lot of stamina so it’s 15-20 minutes of joy and then in for a nap. We have seen the occasional zoomie.
His first choice for an ideal future life would be a relaxed house with cheerful people to be devoted to and a companionable dog or two, a lot of conversation and plenty of hanging out time. His house manners are excellent.
He needs some work on leash manners and basic commands, quite typical for a dog that has been a stray for awhile but nothing that will be problematic to refresh.
