Gus is the perfect mastiff. He’s 9 years young and very playful! He doesn’t destroy things but will initiate games of tug and fetch daily. He’s house trained and will stand at the door when he wants to go out. He can also be left unsupervised without being crated. He is so well trained that you might just think he knows English. He will sit, down, stay, out, backup, and wait reliably.
Gus loves his people and does not let trivial things like privacy stop him from keeping them safe. This boy will poke his head in the shower to make sure you are ok and will follow you room to room. He loves snuggles and pets. He walks well on a leash and does not pull. Like any self-respecting Mastiff, he’s also very food motivated.
Gus was raised with young children but hasn’t been around any at his foster home. He does want to chase small animals that run, but usually doesn’t (he took a few steps after a squirrel and a cat, but he did try to jump after a flying bird got too close).
Gus is on a diet because he could stand to lose a few pounds. The vet says he is very healthy. He has some arthritis in his rear legs and needs to be on some supplements (CBD oil, chondroitin/glucosamine products) and a medication for arthritis. A home with some area rugs and minimal stairs would be ideal.
