The Judge is a sweet, amiable 8-9 year old mastiff mix who was left behind in an empty apartment when his owner(s) moved out, found by two kind strangers who took him to the shelter. Like so many mastiffs he was terribly frightened and depressed in the shelter but thrilled when SSMR took him into rescue and placed him with a cheerful, nurturing foster.
Turns out he’s a typical mastiff senior, a big, happy, affectionate, easy-going boy who prefers lying in the sun to long energetic walks but definitely has pep in his step when a favorite activity, such as car rides, is on the agenda. He may need a little boost if the step is high but he’s a great passenger, always ready to go, and loves new adventures.
Of course he wants to be with people all the time, listening and reacting to whatever they have to say. He is extremely polite, taking treats gently from your hand and walking nicely with you, even off leash. He definitely has his priorities in order, agreeable and patient with other dogs and ignoring cats (at least when they are in carriers at the vet office). He sees himself as something of a watchdog, alerting his foster about people approaching the house but he likes
strangers and is beautifully well-behaved with guests.
He won his name by being such a very expressive dog whose thoughts, feelings and opinions are all over his face. He really enjoys all the pleasures life has to offer and wants to share his happiness with big smiles.
