WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT SSMR’S ADOPTION PROCESS
STEPS IN THE ADOPTION PROCESS
1) Please fill out our adoption application. There is a nonrefundable $35 application fee. 100% of application fee funds go to help our dogs.
2) Our adoption coordinator will review your application. A call might be set up to review your application with one of our volunteers.
3) Our adoption committee members review applications weekly and discuss the applications and available dogs.
4) The committee carefully considers potential adopters’ requests such as:
- Age
- Gender
- Demeanor
- Adopters’ lifestyle
- Ability to live with children/cats/other dogs etc.
5) Personal and Veterinarian references are checked. Delays may occur in this part of the process if the listed references do not return phone calls. Please tell your references to accept our call or return our call as soon as possible.
6) Once a potential dog is available, an SSMR volunteer would call to discuss the dog and it being a potential match. Potential adopters are, of course, under no obligation to adopt the dog selected by the committee. If the potential adopters reject the match, they will be placed back in the potential adopter file.
A home visit may be requested as part of the application process.

ADOPTION APPLICATION FEE
Please Note:
It has become necessary to collect a non-refundable application fee of $35 to help defray the increasing costs of veterinary care of the mastiffs coming into rescue. The fee must be paid when you submit your application via Venmo or PayPal. Your application will not be processed until we receive this fee.
SSMR Adoption Fees
Our Adoption rates are below, you can pay via PayPal or check:
- $600 ($618.00 if paid by PayPal) for puppies under one-year
- $550 ($566.00 if paid by PayPal) for adult dogs up to age seven
- $300 ($310.00 if paid by PayPal) for seniors and mixes
Dogs are vet checked, spayed or neutered, brought up to date on shots, tested for Heartworm and started on a preventative before being placed in adoptive homes. When paying by PayPal, please note the dog's name that you are adopting and the state that the dog is located in in the comments section of PayPal.
