Hunter (GA)

Additional Information

💛🐾 Meet Rusty (GA) — The Gentle Giant Who Just Wants to Be Loved

Rusty is an 8‑year‑old, brown brindle, neutered, 190‑pound mastiff with a heart so big it feels like it fills the room. He’s currently being fostered, waiting for the one thing he’s never truly had — a forever home of his own.

❤️ A Soulful, Sensitive Boy

Rusty has a little anxiety, and sometimes he grinds his teeth when he’s overwhelmed. It’s his way of saying, “I’m trying my best.” And he really is.

Most days, he sleeps peacefully, wanders the yard slowly, and curls up inside where he feels safe. He needs a fenced yard, but more importantly, he needs someone who understands gentle hearts like his.

He loves toys — not just loves them, cherishes them. Tug‑of‑war, fetch, stuffed possum battles… these moments light him up. He’ll look at you with those soft eyes, give a little bark, and ask you to keep playing. It’s joy in its purest form.

👶 A Friend to Children

Rusty has been around kids of all ages and has never had a single issue. He’s patient, kind, and seems to understand how small humans move through the world. He’s the kind of dog who quietly lays nearby, offering comfort without needing attention.

🧍‍♂️🧍‍♀️ With Adults & Strangers

He barks at the door — not out of aggression, but out of hope. He wants to know who’s coming.

And once he realizes you’re kind, he melts.

A few ear scratches, a soft greeting, and suddenly you’re someone he trusts.

🐕🐈 With Other Pets

Rusty does well with dogs after introductions.

Cats? He’s curious, maybe too curious, but gentle. A tolerant kitty could coexist with him.

He doesn’t like sharing his toys with other animals — they’re his comfort items — but he’s never snapped at a human. He just wants to feel secure.

🎓 Training & Good Manners

Rusty is house, crate, and leash trained and responds to:

Sit, Come, Heel, Treats, Down, Leave it

He listens because he wants to make you proud.

❤️‍🩹 Health & Care

Rusty has arthritis and needs to lose a little weight, but he gets around well with medication and supplements.

He also has some skin sensitivities, but thrives on a fish‑based diet and medicated baths.

He’s doing everything he can to stay healthy for the family he hopes to find.

🏡 Why Rusty Matters

Rusty is not just a dog — he’s a story of resilience, gentleness, and quiet hope.

He’s low‑energy, loving, expressive, and deeply loyal.

He doesn’t need much: a soft place to sleep, a fenced yard, toys he can call his own, and humans who see the beauty in a dog who feels deeply.

Rusty will love you with his whole heart.

He will follow you from room to room.

He will nap beside you, play with you, trust you, and protect the home you share.

He’s ready.

He’s waiting.

And he deserves a family who will cherish him as much as he will cherish them. 💙🐾
